FDM Mass Load Makes Life Easier for Mapping


Everyone used FDM to update mapping probably will fee frustration when updating mappings, especially when many rows of records need to be added. More often than not, instead of giving you successful grid update confirmation, it throws you an error message, and all your hard working of mappings are lost in a second. After ran into those kind of errors for several times, people started to hit the Update Grid button every time making two or three entries. See error below.

It is extremely painful when you have MANY mapping entries to make.
Here is an easier way to do mass update of meta data mappings.
- First you would need to export the mapping into an excel file.


- Open the exported excel file, and insert rows, and ensure all newly added rows fall within the range of upstDataMap.
                  
- Delete all data in the DataKey, as those will be regenerated when the export file is imported back.

- Save the file, and now you are ready to upload.
- Click Delete all. Click Upload File tab, click browse, select the file, and click Import.

Essbase Currently Not Accepting Connections

Application is currently not accepting connection. Essbase Error(1054009) There are occasions when users receive the above error message when they try to connect to Planning Essbase cluster via SmartView. This is normally caused by one of the following activities:   a) Database is being refreshed (Classic) or deployed (EPMA). Solutions: Wait till refresh to be completed. b) Allow connects under security is unchecked.  Solutions: In EAS, from application, select edit property, and under General tab. c) Connection is disabled using MaxL . Solutions:   Code examples: alter application $4 disable connects; alter application $4 enable connects ;   d) Connection is disabled using ESSCMD. Solutions: Code examples: DISABLELOGIN; ENABLELOGIN; When all of these are checked, and users are still not able to connect to the application, then the ultimate solution is to restart all Hyperion services.

HFM: Performance Tuning on Application

There are three Planning Applications (seven Plan Types) are already there in Production, all perform well. After HFM was migrated from SIT to the Production environment recently, we immediately noticed the performance of HFM is not well. Normally it takes 15 seconds to open a HFM application in SIT, in production it takes over a minute to open (if after the services are recycled, it takes more than four minutes to open a HFM application). However, the consolidation time is sort of normal. (two to five minutes to consolidate a month, which contains about 400K of records).
